Jeanette's Last Week of January

I dropped the ball on posting what I ate this week :(  I'm sorry!!

For breakfasts this week I ate a lot of green smoothies and toast with almond butter.  Twice when I was driving to work drinking my smoothie I reflected on how good my body felt drinking that healthy deliciousness!  Also, that breakfast can usually last me until lunch.  I also ate frittata with salsa AND...I had dinner at Emily's on Sunday night.  We had salad, baked chicken, quinoa, and broccoli.  It was fantastic!  Then, Emily gave me two Poblano peppers from her Bountiful Basket.  (She doesn't digest peppers well.)  I wasn't sure what to do with them, but I concocted this (see below).  I baked the peppers and filled them with a combination of ground turkey, lentil/barley mix, quinoa, corn, and salsa.  I sprinkled a tiny bit of cheese on the top.  They are great!  I had one for breakfast this week too.

For lunches...well, on Tuesday I had jury duty so I pretty much skipped lunch.  Then I went to the gym and worked out--and saw an amazing number (that I haven't seen since) when I weighed!  For lunches this week I ate a lot of salad:  salad with chicken twice, salad with lentil soup, and salad with doc's chili.  What can I say?  I love salad.

For dinners, I usually eat the same things I have at lunch.  One night this week, I ate a Bocca black bean burger in a thin bun with a small potato (baked) and broccoli.  I also (on Wednesday) was feeling depressed about life and the inversion, and I ate a bag of popcorn, salad, AND a handful of chocolate chips.   Yikes!

Sometimes I eat a couple of nuts (almonds or cashews) if I'm really hungry after the gym and before dinner.  Just sayin.

Today (Friday), I ate:

1 green smoothie with 1 toast with almond butter

1 apple

1 salad (lettuce, cucumber, tomatoes, feta) with yogurt dressing and 1 cup lentil soup

1/2 cup homemade refried beans with 1 Poblano pepper concoction and salad with balsamic vinegar

Exercise:

Monday-- Cardio at the gym including 30 minutes on treadmill, bike, and elliptical
Tuesday-- Treadmill at gym, a few weights
Wednesday-- Break
Thursday-- Hiked Quail Ridge and jogged down (36 min)
Friday-- Cardio/weights at the gym (including 30 min on treadmill)

I have not eaten after 6 PM this week, and did not indulge at Book Club or mutual.

On a positive note from all this--look how cute my birthday jacket is starting to look!  I know I have a long way to go, but.... JUST KEEP GOING!!!

Here's to hoping I can beat Michelle Sunday.  She is a fierce competitor.

Week 3 Update: Slow and Steady Progress

Today (Sunday, January 26) marks the end of Week 3 for the intrepid Lean-and-not-so-Mean-2014 adventurers.

Both contestants have lost 10 pounds in 20 days, which is a tremendous and exciting feat.  This week:

Michelle's starvation diet and sheer willpower power pushed her over the 190's hump that was holding her back.  She hit 189.6 for a weight loss of 2 pounds this week---total weight loss to date:  exactly 10 pounds.  Sweet!!

Jeanette's weight loss slowed considerably this week, but she didn't stop and neither did it!  She weighed in at 198.4 for a weight loss of 1.2 this week---total weight loss to date:  10.2 pounds.  Excellent!!

Keep up the good work girls, and remember....next week's weigh in marks the official end of Round 2.  May the biggest loser win!

Michelle Saturday 25 January 2014

breakfast:

vegetable soup over spaghetti squash

Here's to eating more next week.  I didn't eat enough calories this week hence my diminished metabolism and decreased weight loss from the weeks I wasn't starving every day.

Next week, my goal is 950-1100 calories per day.

Thank you.

Jeanette: 1.24 and 1.25

Part of the Reason I Feel Mad at the Scale

Look at the fun stuff I passed up at mutual!  My YW made meatloaf muffins with mashed potato frosting.  Seriously!  I wanted to try it.  But I said no to everything, even though I was so, so hungry.  Anyway.

Jeanette: Wed/Thurs 1.22 & 23.14

Despite starving and exercising, the scale has not moved for me this week.  :(  Like, at all.

Wednesday (1/22/14):

Breakfast
1/2 cup black beans and salsa

Nutrition Break Snack
1 apple

Lunch
1/2 taco salad with salsa yogurt ranch dressing
(I didn't finish either my breakfast or my lunch.  I only ate half.  I felt like I shouldn't keep eating if I wasn't really hungry.  Cut calories!!)

Dinner
Chicken in Jamaican Jerk marinade (9 small pieces), steamed broccoli/carrots/cauliflower (about 1 cup), zucchini (small pieces fried)

Note
I did  not eat ANYTHING at mutual, even though I was starving.  I drank water and went to bed hungry.

Exercise:
Ran/walked (but mostly ran) in the freezing cold on the Greenbelt (2 miles)

Thursday (1/23/14):

Breakfast
1 breakfast burrito

Lunch
Chicken in Jamaican Jerk marinade (9 small pieces), steamed broccoli/carrots/cauliflower (about 1 cup), zucchini

Starving While Shopping Snacks
1/4 of a piece of jerky
3 cashews
3 wheat thins

Dinner
Green smoothie, 1 bag popcorn
1 roll
(Ok, I bought the rolls for the staff luncheon at school tomorrow, and I fell off the wagon.  But seriously, that was the best roll I have ever eaten in my entire life.  I think I'll sleep better tonight, even though I'm STILL hungry.)

I may resort to drastic measures soon if that scale doesn't move.

Jeanette: Monday, 1.20.14

Dear Blogiary,

Today was a day off from school.  It was cold and gray and I'm really, really sick of this inversion!  Not gonna lie....I wanted to meet up with friends and eat French fries at a restaurant.  Instead, I:

Ate:
2 Biggest Loser frittatas
1/3 of a spaghetti squash with spaghetti sauce (turkey/lentils/barley/veggies)
1/2 an apple with 2 Tbsp peanut butter
1 cup "Shannon beans"

Exercised:
At the gym with Kerilyn.  25 min on treadmill (ran 5.0 to 6.5 topped out at 7.0)
20 minutes on elliptical
15 min weights (arms and stomach)

I also tried on some clothes today at the mall.  I looked better.  I still have a long ways to go, but it was fun to see some improvement.  Can't wait until I actually look good!!

Note from Jeanette to Michelle

19 January Michelle Food

I thought I'd want to take a break and eat the house after the two weeks of deprivation but when it came right down to it, I didn't want to.  In the past two weeks, my sugar cravings are way down and I didn't feel the need to rev up the addiction.  I like that I'm craving vegetable soup and strawberries :)

Breakfast:
Green smoothie and toast
Lunch:
Spaghetti squash covered in vegetable soup with green salad
Snack:
Oatmeal
Dinner:
Spaghetti squash covered in vegetable soup

Michelle's Response to Losing

So I lost....that's right... I lost.

I. Lost. 8 pounds!

How can you feel like a loser when you lose 8 lbs. in 2 weeks?!

Looking forward to the next two weeks.

I will lose 50 lbs. by 01 June

Jeanette: Sunday, 1.19.14

If I didn't know better, I'd swear I'm getting diabetes from the amount of time I spend in the restroom these days.

Ate:

2 Biggest Loser egg frittatas
1 piece whole wheat toast
1/2 an apple

1/3 of a spaghetti squash
1 cup spaghetti sauce (with turkey and veggies)
1 cup peas
1/4 cup unsweetened applesauce

5 wheat thins with almond butter
5 cashews
1 green smoothie
1 bag popcorn

And The Winner Is....

Sunday:  January 19, 2014

Judgment Day.

The day of reckoning dawned cold and foggy in Boise and bright and fabulous in Arizona.  Two somewhat skinnier contestants did their final weigh ins for the Round 1 prize.  Who would win??  The better-thank-gym-partner-Sandy-and-keep-making-freezer-meals Jeanette or the look-at-those-darling-bright-shoes-as-she-walks-again-and-eats-a-Biggest-Loser-frittata Michelle?

It was a close race, but Jeanette pulled ahead by .31 to claim the first victory.  Congratulations Jeanette!  (See her acceptance speech below)

Jeanette lost exactly 9 pounds in the last two weeks for a total % of 4.31.  WOW!

Michelle lost exactly 8 pounds in the last two weeks for a total % of 4.00.  FANTASTIC!!

Jeanette's Acceptance Speech:
I'd like to thank Sandy Rayborn for helping me to climb a mountain and nearly killing me at the gym.  I'd also like to thank the random person who posted the ugly olive green freezer for $20 on Craigslist that currently houses all my proportioned meals...I really couldn't have done this without you!  I'd like to recognize my honored competitor for putting up a really good fight.  You are amazing, Michelle.  Last, but not least, I'd like to thank my bobcat, Scout, for being so handsome and supporting me by sitting near me on the couch each day.  Thank you all for this award!!

Jan. 18 Food Journal: Jeanette

Ok, so this was not a normal eating day.  I went to my first Young Women's activity--it was a combined activity tubing at Bogus Basin (surprisingly very fun).  We left at 1:30 PM and didn't get back until about 8 PM (due to officials cleaning up from a fatal accident on the road to Bogus that backed up traffic).  I actually avoided all the donuts, cookie bars, and juice after the activity and drank a whole water bottle instead, which turned out to be a bad idea when my bladder was full and we were stuck on the side of the mountain in a line of cars.

As any desperate leader would do, I trespassed through the locked gates of the nearest house with some young women in a similar dire predicament.  We hiked over a hill past some tennis courts to where we could do our business behind a tree hopefully out of view of all the line of cars.

Needless to say, I did not eat much today.

Jeanette's food:
1 green smoothie
1 whole wheat toast with almond butter

1/3 cooked spaghetti squash
1 cup spaghetti sauce with ground turkey, lentils, veggies

1 waterbottle

Wooee!  I better lose weight tomorrow after that low cal adventure day!

Jenna, Maddie, Cienna, and Allison.  Some of the young women in my ward!
I was happy to be out of the inversion for a few hours.  Check out the cloud cover....
